Pianist Jacky Terrason is a versate player with a stinct voice, who along with Taylor is the heart and soul of this band. Going back to the '50s, the leader fancied the dynamics of two saxophonists playing off of each other, which Abraham Burton and Wlie Wliams do exceengly well here. Walter Bolden's compositions make for the most interesting moments here, in particular the "Bridge Theme" which is restated throughout. This is excellent hard bop played by a true master, and it's a shame that "Mr. A.T." passed away shortly after this recorng was made. ~ Robert TaylorEtorial Reviews...Taylor doesn't allow his group a second of coasting time, and he has a slew of rhythmic accents to jump-start any lagging passages....Musician (19931101)Performance: Perfection / Recorng: Fine Remote - ...it is his attention to detas that really stinguishes Arthur Taylor's Waers from normal club fare. If they keep this up, they wl be an all-star quintet before we know it....Stereo Review (19940201)4 Stars - Very Good - ...on WAIN' AT THE VANGUARD [Taylor] proves to be an important link to the bop era--as well as a swinging, spirited drummer and a strong bandleader....Down Beat (19931101) Portions of this page Copyright 1948 - 2012 Muze Inc.
